It started when Zendaya stepped onto the Met Gala stairs sporting a Maison Margiela gown, and a make-up look straight from their revolutionary SS24 Couture runway.
As a co-chair for this year’s event, Zendaya was among the first to arrive on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum, blowing us away with a smouldering face by legendary make-up artist Pat McGrath.
Sporting thin eyebrows and wine-red lips, Zendaya evoked the gothic 1930s in an unprecedented look for the starlet and red carpet icon.
However, she was far from the only noteworthy beauty look of the evening. It was a particularly gorgeous evening for women of colour, who appeared to have the most fun with the theme.
Doja Cat stunned with a surprising statement of running mascara – a beauty look which matched her towel-to-wet-tshirt look. Quannah Chasinghorse stunned with a light dappling of iridescent mauve eye makeup and turquoise bottom eyeliner, while Lily Gladstone rocked a multi-coloured blue and green eye with her signature braids.
Meanwhile, mauve blush had its moment on the likes of Amanda Gorman and Simone Ashley, who arrived relatively bare faced but pink-cheeked. Loewe icon Greta Lee also wore a no make-up, make-up look but with one of the night’s most shocking hair transformations: a mullet.
With such an ethereal theme in play, it was delightful to see celebs lean into fairy tale-esque themes and statements, from head to toe.
Here, a round-up of the best Met Gala beauty looks for the year, and what we can tell you about them.

Sydney Sweeney
Billie Eilish, is that you? Nope, it’s Sydney Sweeney sporting jet black hair at this year’s Met Gala.
Kylie Jenner
Kylie Jenner shucked expectation for a daring beauty look at this year’s Met Gala. Instead, the cosmetics mogul opted for a clean glamour, head to toe.
Simone Ashley
