While the international Spring/Summer month provides those north of the equator inspiration for what they’ll be wearing next season, they are perfectly timed for Australians as we move into summer. Currently, we’ve finished soaking up sartorial inspiration from the New York SS/25 runways, and we’re turning our eyes to London, Paris and Milan. And, we’ll be bookmarking beauty looks right here as we go.

Best Summer Beauty Trends From LFW SS25

Ombre Gloss

At Ahluwalia, lead makeup artist Mata Mariélle used MAC products to create a high gloss sunset lip featuring a gentle ombre transition with a combination of terracotta tones.

Bejewelled Barretes

Beauty at Simone Rocha’s introduced rebellious, gothic elements to a collection that celebrated Rocha’s signature ballet styles, but with mature sheer off-white cloaks and ankle-grazing cloaks. Hair reflected this energy with severe centre-parted hair secured by dazzling floral barrettes for boys and girls.

Cool Pastels

As at New York Fashion Week, London saw plenty of soft goth beauty moments trickling down the runway. We were particularly taken with the muted and romantic dove grey lids at KNWLS, paired with a cool-toned terracotta lip (makeup artist Thomas de Kluyver shared this was “Lucy” dark Orange Lipstick from Gucci). Perfect for goth girls who struggle to transition their aesthetics into summer.

Architectural Nails

There were plenty of decorative nails at London fashion week, but the transparent petal drop manicures created by Ama Quashie for Nensi Dojaka were our personal favourites bringing a whimsical accent to the traditional gothic black manicure.

Greige Undertones For Lips

A consistent trend has been for greige takes on traditional colours, from purple to terracotta. We saw muted orange at KNWLS and greige-toned plum “smoker’s lips” (ahem, makeup artist Marcelo Gutierrez’s words, not ours) all over New York Fashion Week. At Roksanda, flowy terracotta gowns looks were complimented with slicked-back buns and, you guessed it, smokey greige-toned purple lips. The Gabriette-effect is officially in full swing.

Best Summer Beauty Trends From NYFW SS25

Embellished Buns

There was something old-world about the fresh skin and flushed lips and cheeks at Alice + Olivia. The romantic collection had echoes of Bridgerton, with a contemporary Nara Smith update. Silky skin was complimented by major hair scrunchies or delicate pearl detailing framing exaggerated ballet buns.

Blurred Lips

While we all love a pop of colour come summer, the hassle of maintenance during the holiday season can feel like a lot. The blurred lip trend is the perfect way to create a bright, satin pout that lasts. Berry tints were concentrated in the centre of the lip and then faded out at Ulla Jonshon, where the Sisley Paris Lip Twist Matte in Shade Kiss was used, and similarly hazy berry shades were spotted at Grace Ling. We love the Violette FR, Bisou Balm ($46.00) for creating this long-wearing, smoothing and blurred lip-look.

Terracotta Blush or “Blonzer”

“Blonzer” has been trending all year, and at Ralph Lauren and Kim Shui makeup artists reached for terracotta tones swept across cheeks, nose bridges and foreheads to give models a just back from the beach and off to the club glow. At Kim Shui, M.A.C Cushion Blush in the peachy-taupe shade “Please” was deployed for the perfect sun-kissed flush.

Blunt Bobs

The blunt, f*ck-ass bob has the beauty community in a chokehold, and NYFW provided plenty of inspiration with blunt, shiny bobs popping up everywhere from Christian Siriano, where hair was placed in architectural swirls and scattered with sparkles to Christian Cowan, where bobs were cut so high they grazed cheekbones. Will we pair our chops with Gabriette-style razor-thin brows? We’re almost convinced.

Underliner

Sadly for the Tumblr generation, the cat eye has been labelled woefully millennial on TikTok, but Jonathan Cohen and Kim Shui came to the rescue with its younger, hotter cousin. These smokey waterlines were buffed out for a blurred effect. They gave a gothic, almost ethereal quality and flattering lift to the eye.

Soft Goth

The lingering brat influence seems like it will carry over into summer with soft goth and luxe grunge looks popping up at Wiederhoeft, which drew inspiration from the 1947 film Black Narcissus along with Area and Palomo Spain were grey-toned berry lips (makeup artist Marcelo Gutierrez referred to his greige berry as a “smokers lip”) offered a lighter more wearable take on Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Jenna Ortega glam.
